What is this test?
The Adenosine Deaminase or ADA test is performed to
detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis, commonly known as tuberculosis or TB
infection in pleural fluid.
What does the test measure?
ADA test is performed to measure the level of
Adenosine Deaminase in one's pleural fluid. The samples collected for this test
are: Pleural Fluid Peritoneal or cerebrospinal fluid (rarely)
How to prepare for the test?
If you are taking medicines prior to this test or
have allergies, inform your doctor. Follow the instructions of the doctor on
how to prepare for ADA.
What does the test result mean?
Irrespective of the age, the normal range of Adenosine
Deaminase for both males and females is less than 40 U/L. Anything higher than
this value indicates the presence of Tuberculosis or other autoimmune
disorders.
